Nice shots - I hate hairy spiders - but I love to see pictures that capture them.
I think your first shot works better - don't know if it is the DOF or the darker background or combination of the two - but it works for me. Just my 2c worth.

I was down on the floor with my P&S in macro mode, getting up close and personal with a wolf spider that wandered in our lounge, when it raised its front legs in a threatening posture. With it looking so close in macro mode - I jumped back a mile before realising my folly, and missed a really great image - LOL. The perils of wildlife photography!

I love the dew still on the web and the angle of the shot. Hope you didn't get any webs stuck to you taking this. I hate it when that happens.....ick....

I think you are right Grumby, the first shot is better.
Lol, I can just imagine doing the same.
Looking through the viewfinder it must have looked a monster!

I like #1 too. I hate spiders but they are actually beautiful creatures when you look at them up close and personal thru a zoom !!! Their creations are beautiful too. Great shot !!

These are fantastic! I love the perspective on them. I really enjoy shooting spiders in their webs. Thanks for shariing these.

I prefer the first shot with more DoF....well captured (BTW it's a female garden spider - Araneus diadematus)
