Default One Chance

So my catus has only bloomed twice in the 5 years I have had it. The first year and this year.
When I saw the flowers start to grow I was very excited. They are huge and they only open fully for less than a day.
When I came home from the gym yesterday evening they had just cracked open, I knew today was going to be the day. When I left for work this morning they were in full bloom, I had to take a couple shots incase they started to die before I came home, which they did.

So here is what I got, just had to share.

Lovely shots, I didnt realise that cactus plants only flower so very rarely & that the flowers die off so quick.
I am so glad you took some pics before work, it would of been another 5 long years before you got the chance again.
Thanks for sharing.

Is that beautiful cactus a Euphorbia Triguna? Of so, I've had one for almost eight years. It's over seven feet tall and beautiful, but it has never bloomed. That odd green hue you see is me being envious.
Great capture.

Timing is everything- I bet you're glad you saw the blooms coming. Could you have set up a tripod and set up a "continuous" setting with an interval timer? That could have provided a shot every five minutes, or 10 minutes or whatever your camera may have. Good shots.

In just plain English, a night blooming cereus. They only bloom once each year, if you're lucky...and only at night...the sun sends them packing for another year. Lovely shots.

Extremely! My wife leaves for work as I wake up and she back in to tell me they opened, she is so nice. Went right out to get some shots.

My friend who gave me this "clipping" (you actually just cut off part of the cactus and stick it in soil and it grows) said his cactus, fromn which mine came, has never flowered.
I must have a green thumb or something?

Have no idea what kind it is? This one is about 5 feet now. Thanks for the compliments.

I really wanted to get a series of the flower opening but there is no way I was leaving my camera outside. Someone stole my downspout a couple months back, I'm sure they would like a D90 too. Hey time are tough.......

Is that really the name?....thanks, nice to know. Mine has only bloomed twice, i think it needs a long stretch of lots of sun for the buds to start then a good rain for thim to open. I reacll thats what happened last time too. Thanks agian.

Once every five years and open for 12 hours......Congrats on your attentive eyes lest it have been totally missed!
