Default Return of the D700 - Volleyball

Got my D700 (and 24-70) back from Nikon a few days ago, which is nice. I had to shoot with a D3 last weekend--such a travesty, I know.

Haven't shot volleyball in nearly three years, I forgot how much of a pain it is!

Great set the second one will never thank you as she is clearly demonstrating the it was this big shot technique tricky to master but she broke the golden rule of doing it whilst a tog was about

D700 how jealous am I !! just got D60 and chuffed to bits with it

Great, great shots. Thanks so much for sharing the EXIF data, I've been trying to shoot junior volleyball matches (a friend of mine made it to the national youth trials in Turkey this year) but I never got anything I was 100% happy with.

Very nice. I like how we can see faces in these.

And it's amazing how much a narrow DoF improves photos like these.

Why only ISO 1600? I though a D700 would do nice work up to 6400? A little faster shutter speed might have given you crisper shots -- not that these are bad at all

I dunno, I guess I just didn't feel like I needed to crank it. 1/500 was fine, it's pretty hard to freeze hands in this kind of thing, and sometimes a little bit of motion blur can promote a feeling of action. The second one is a little soft, but it was a focus problem, not a shutter speed problem.

Glad you got your camera and lens back; These are great action shots.
That lens is perfect for low light situations like indoor Volley ball.
Thanks for sharing these
Michael.
