Default South Side Johnny and the Asbury Jukes

Went to the South Side Johnny Concert at the Community Theatre in Morristown NJ last night. A friend went there a few weeks ago and took some shots, so I thought wow I'll take my camera. I called first and they told me cameras are allowed but you can't take pictures at the show. I said "what?" and they explained that people may have them so they let them in but you can't use them. Just before the show starts they announce it is prohibited to video or audio record the performance and no flash photography is allowed. So, I figure great, I have a fast lens (Nikon 24-70 f/2.8) and I'll push the ISO to 800 on my D5000. Got a bunch of shots. You should have seen all the flashing from people with little P&S cameras and cell phones. About mid-way through the show an "usher" with 42" biceps comes up to me and says I can't take pictures. I say what about all the flashes going off - he say no telephoto lenses allowed. I tell him it is not a telephoto just a mid-range zoom. He says you can't use that lens. So I stopped for 10 minutes.

Thanks. Had a little trouble at first with metering. Kept blowing out the faces, but I just kept dialing some exposure compensation. I think I finally took it to about -1.7 till I could compensate for the bright spot lights, but it seems to have worked out well.
