Default Sparks Fly!

I noticed a post regarding capture the point of a match being set alight, and i thought. I wonder what effects a lighter would produce.

Tried and tested, this was one of my favourites.

Sparks Fly

Only 3 turned out how i'd hoped, you can see them on my flickr page. One did is a little blurred from the movement while striking the flint!

Enjoy.

i really like it, it's nice to see the stage between no flame and flame as more than just a spark for a fraction of a second

OK, heres a quick How To:

1. Set camera on tripod and placed lighter on table
2. Meter scene and Composed shot with light on
3. Once happy (see my EXIF data below), turn off lights (Use MF, as you'll find yourself back and forth to the light switch!)
4. Depress shutter release, using timer
5. As shutter opens, spark lighter
6. Look at result, repeat as desired
7. Download images (RAW)
8. I used CS3 to pp the image. I increased the blacks, to reduce higlights on all the my thumb which struck the flint.

Hop this help, and would love to see others results. I got some with a mixture of flame and sparks.

As always, you are playing with fire so be careful!

EXIF

Camera: Canon EOS 400D Digital
Exposure: 1
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 105 mm
Exposure: -0.80
ISO Speed: 400
