Default New Member - New to photography

Hello everyone. Decided to combine my hobbies of biking and birdwatching with a third one - photography. Last week treated myself to a cannon 500d with standard 18-55 lens and a Sigma 150-500 OS telephoto. I now want to know everything all on day one. I guess it doesn't work like that does it? Wierd though how once you get the bug you just want to be out there clicking away, and how different everything seems; how you examine everything with a new and critical eye! Oh, and by the way, I am also new to this type of communication. I have been looking at some of your wonderful photo's. I had a mess around with my new gear last week and here are a couple of my attempts. Anyhow look forward to getting more involved as time passes. Whoops - didn't work. Looks like only one came through. Oh well- here it is. Paul.

Great first shot, Preacherman! Macros are always fascinating, especially when you use the depth of field and composition properly! Welcome to the forum! If you have a wife, kiss her good bye...along with your cash! You're not going to be seeing much of either!! ...not if you do it right, that is! Keep the photos coming!

PS...if you want one-stop shopping for all your photography "how to" questions, you've come to the right place!!

Definitely a good first post. I love the depth of field you achieved with this shot. Welcome aboard!
