Hello Hayward! You controlled the exposure very well to not lose the focus and hilites beyond the shadow of the bridge. Great composition and DOF my Friend! as others have said, the B & W conversion works well here.
Thanks for sharing this
Michael

This is one of those pictures that you have to look at for a while to take in everything that is in there. The lines and the angles that form all these shapes, I love it

Thank you all for the encouraging comments .. I held back in b&w conversion because I believe only certain subjects should be converted .. and Patrick - I think they're also called draw bridges .. I appreciate all your kind comments

Well for a rookie B&W guy ( which is funny, because you used to have a black and white TV ) it's exceptional ,, very deep and rich contrast.. wonderful lines, shapes and curves.. very interesting structure.

but I specially like the fire Hose shooting the arching stream out into the river in the background.. it adds some movement and is only apparent when you follow the river thru the photo.. For a first time Converting this is terrific !!

Hayward, beautiful job. You have such a great balance with the light. Great exposure control. I really love this photo...from the contrast to the composition. Well done!
