As some of you may know, an rare event occurred back in May in our area, a derecho, which produced straight-line winds running from west to east at up to 106 mph for over an hour. As a result, many MANY trees were lost for miles, some completely uprooted, others snapped like twigs.
Though much of the cleanup is complete, the lasting effects of this storm will remain evident for years to come. As I sat in park yesterday eating my lunch with my camera in the seat next to me, I looked around in wonder at the many stumps surrounding me in an area where at least 50 trees lost their life. Suddenly, I had an idea...and this is what I came up with. ![]() Any and all comments/thoughts are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Aimee, Since your first post in May, it has been evident that the loss of the trees has tugged at your heart. What fitting tribute you have made--it tells the story of the Derecho and its effect on your community and you. Each stump by itself might have been touching but placing them together the way you have--artfully and skillfully--is impacting. Beautifully done. This Shel Silverstein quote is coming to mind: "...and the tree was very happy".

What a lovely tribute to this terrible event. The photographs in the collage are so good and capture all the textures of the wood. This is great work Aimee and very nicely presented.
Dave.
