haha took this photo the other night.
haha she came to this dress up party as Ollie Sykes' wife haha.

With my new camera i had never really tried night photos, but i put the flash on and the SS at like a second, and i got some cool looking shots.

Nice shot! However, if your shutter speed was one second, you're lucky to have been in a very dark room which allowed the flash, which is a very short duration light, to be the overpowering light source. With brighter ambient light your photo would have likely been blurred since it is difficult, if not impossible, to hand hold such a long exposure. Most people cannot get a sharp photo with anything longer than 1/20th second.

As a general rule of thumb, the lowest shutter speed should can be used with a hand held camera is the inverse of the focal length of the lens being used. Example: for 30mm, 1/30th sec.; for 50mm, 1/50th sec.; for 200mm, 1/200th; etc.
