thanks guys
i gotta ask though, what is it that makes the colours in a sunset so different from one day to the next.? for the first shot, no matter how long i waited, i coulnt get the vibrant colours like the second shot so i was curious if anyone knew why this happens?

Enzee,

Have you checked the White balance settings used in both shots... Shooting dusk with daylight mode brings much dramatic colours to the pics..

Not sure, but my suspicion is the brightnesss of the sky relative to the rest of the scene. If the clouds are a bit thin, the colors of the sky never seem to be as saturated as I might want.

I've had good results with sunsets, at times, by metering for the sky, then underexposing by one stop (give or take). I'd love to get a GND filter one of these days, for shots just like this.

Very nice shots, and I agree with the others about the 2nd one.
