A cue bird, indeed. And a difficult one to catch also.
You've done well, my friend. At first I was inclined for the second shot but due to the beautiful lighting and overall composition I go with the first. I also would like to invite you to my set of house sparrows: House Sparrows - a set on Flickr I hope you like them.

I believe your camera was not supported well (tripod or monopod) a small pop up flash could have brought out out the eyes too !
