Default San Francisco Peaks - AZ Highways

The San Francisco Peaks are part of the chain of 600 extinct volcano in Northern Arizona. They were named after St. Francis of Assissi by Francisan fathers in 1629, almost 150 prior to a little city in California by that name. It is sacred ground to many native people including the Hopis, Zunis, and Havasupai. The Navajo people associate the color yellow with the peaks and believe that the mountains are secured to the ground with a sunbeam.

The Arizona Highways Magazine workshop involved shooting in nine locations and with the exception of Lake Mary, these peaks were never out of sight. The San Francisco Peaks are the heart of Flagstaff. Here are four views:

the first photo is just filled with textures and shapes, I love the yellow of the flowers mixed with the green of the meadow. the treeline into the mountains and then the dramatic sky,, really fulflilling view.

I havn't seen Bokeh used in such a way as in the second.. it's buttery and soft, yet it suggests a mountain and sky background.. very beautiful !

Great Fence shot .. my attnetion follows the rails into that great cloud painted sky !

the last photo is epic .. the the brush and Pines in the forground being light hold for a moment then lead to the mountains , the mountains frame the sky .. the dark and light clouds of the sky add alot of interest.. that's a great image !

great stuff !!

Vin

More top notch work, Lindy. The second is my favorite - it's unique, and detailed and blurred in all the right places.

I gotta pick 1, 3 or 4, or is it the stunning detail in 2? actually it's the red clump in 1 that holds my eye .. fantastic set

Wow Lindy, after my jaw got up off the floor I was able to type this. Wonderful, simply put... I can't simply put it, these are magnificent shots. WAY TO GO!

I always appreciate the time you spend looking at other peoples photos. The results are always great comments. Thanks, Vin. I went to college in Flagstaff in 1962 and these peaks were a solid presence in my life.

Thanks very much, Michael. We were lined up along a fence shooting straight ahead, The first photo is an example. I looked to my left and spotted this fence. I like the strong diagonal lines it provided, leading right to the peaks.

I blundered into that shot. The Salsify, so dandelion looking, just seemed like a fun shot. The AZ Highways assistant held it for me and I guess I sorta saw the peaks but not in a clearly conscious way. I was really surprised by the results. I could have easily had it blocking the peaks. Thanks, Chip.

You know, I really like that spot myself. It's not an eyesore but it really jumps out at you. Glad you like them all, though!

Another fantastic set! I found myself simply staring at the detail in the flower and how the background made it stand out even more. Thanks for the share.

Love your photos Lindy. I think the first is my favorite, the beautiful wild flowers with the dramatic dark clouds.
