Default In the Pines - AZ Highways Workshop

According to Wikipedia "Flagstaff, Arizona lies near the southwestern edge of the Colorado Plateau, along the western side of the largest contiguous Ponderosa Pine forest in the continental United States." Not a cactus in sight.

These are photos from my Arizona Highways Magazine workshop two weeks ago. We photographed at nine locations, each diverse in setting and time of day. The first two photos were taken, mid-day, at Lake Mary, south of Flagstaff. These two photos were taken with my manual lens. Memo to self: Do this more often. The flower, called a Blanket Flower, is a common sight in the high country in summer. The final photo was taken at Sunset Crater. You can see part of the lava flow and the 900 year old volcanic rock that is strewn across the landscape for miles.

great set of images - before I restarted my photography journey a few months ago I wouldn't have thought that shots like this would interest me

I really like them all - the focus and sharpness are superb and I have a particular liking for the last image because I think it's really hard to make a subject like that hold the viewers attention but it got mine immediately

Well, I wondered about the last shot. It's a challenge to choose from 900 photos! I'm glad you like it. I think it's the richness of color that draws me to it. This photography journey does have twists and turns down roads less traveled, doesn't it?

Beautiful work Lindy, I love the blanket flower. We have some of those in the front yard.

Love the last one. The earth tones are so deep looking. Very nice.

Thanks, Patrick. I bought my manual lens on Ebay and have used it for macro shots but never used it for landscape. Of all the photos I took, the ones from the lake were the sharpest. The last shot seems to speak, somehow...like a monument, as you say rightly.

How fortunate, as they are so sunny and bright. I think they are as pretty in this stage as they are in full bloom:

And in the end...
