Here is the first shot I took with my new 250mm IS lens, the best part is, this was done handheld.
Zoomed and cropped in photoshop so it fits my computer desktop

Thank you, I'm still rather new to this and still haven't found my niche, but I'm enjoying experimenting, especially with feedback from the members of this site

Very nice! And I'm absolutely amazed that it was done hand-held -- not because of the shutter speed since the Moon is quite bright and doesn't require long shutter speeds, but because it was a 250mm lens which magnifies any vibrations. You must have a good grip and steady hand!
On a technical side, though, the title"New Moon," if applied literally isn't quite correct. If it were actually New Moon phase, we wouldn't be seeing it at all. What you have there is a Waxing Crescent Moon about 5 or 6 days AFTER the New Moon. There must have been some clouds or other obstructions involved, too, because the curvature of the terminator (separation between light and dark parts) should be more smoothly curved.
