Default Fawn

I took this picture a couple of years ago but I wanted to share it. I won my first competition with this yesterday. I entered it in a local camera club's competition and it won first place. This was the first time I ever entered a competition. It was because of a comment left in my gallery from a member here that made me choose this photo over another one. So thanks A-Lyn20.

I'm pretty proud. It makes me think that at least sometimes I do something right (at least in terms of photography)

Nice picture. What size lens did you use and how close were you to the fawn. This past spring there were two does that would leave there new fawns under a tree in our yard and I was able to get within a few feet to take some pictures. I like how the face is in focus with a shallow dof.

Thanks for your comment. I used a Pentax 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6. It too was deposited in my back yard by its mother. I was able to get a few feet from it. I was new to CT and having come from NYC I was never that close to a deer before. Ended up calling a nature conservatory and they told me that it was normal for the mother to leave the baby for a short time. It was gone the next day.

Just a few feet away from the subject? That's really incredible, there's no way anything like that would happen in a city like mine haha

you know, a shot like this give a great argument for not always focussing on the eyes. the shallow dof adds to the shot, with the plants and nose being the main focal point. very nice.

Thanks johendly. When taking this I was new to SLrs so I had difficulty focusing on the eyes because of the grass. I guess my beginner skill worked to my advantage then.

Very nice! Congratulations on the win. Winning contests are a great confidence booster, makes you want to get out and photograph even more.
