Default The Joe and Tim roadshow

Otherwise known as Vice President Joe Biden comes to campus. Insanity ensues.

Forgive me if I'm a bit giddy, I've been up since 4:45 this morning. Had to drop off the gear at 6:30 for security.

As media circuses go, this one was relatively low-key. None of the major networks (or cable networks) carried the meeting live, though News 10 (local Time Warner channel) ran it live, and SU streamed it to the web. Nevertheless, there were a lot of press.

Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner was also there. Joe Biden talked about his mom (pictures later). Secretary of Education Arne Duncan was also there, and the three participated in a panel discussion with several members of the educational community.

Audience members asked lots of questions.

Last night into today was pretty crazy, because I got an e-mail around 8:30 p.m. that we needed to have credentials from our media outlet. The Daily Orange doesn't really have any sort of official credentials, so my editor told me it was "arts and crafts time." One trip to campus, one trip to FedEx office and 90 minutes later, and The Daily Orange had credentials!

More to come.

I'd like to avoid political discussions if at all possible. Thanks.

Edit: my slightly homemade photo credential with not-so-homemade press pass taped to it.

We already got an editorial complaining that the background audience wasn't diverse enough.

I thought it was interesting that he had a Marine Corps ball cap, didn't think they were involved with this kind of security. I'm going to go ahead and assume there's a really big rifle laying next to him.

Thumbs up

Excellent captures, James! So glad you were able to get credentialed...just in the nick of time! I especially like your composition in #2 and #3 in your original post. Good work.
