Default Growning Pains

So tonight, I set up a rose in a glass on my kitchen countertop, set up some lights ( even two small flashlights, torches for your proper english speakers ) and played around taking various exposures of the same shot ..

I tried 4 times to upload the HDR conversion and resize in Flickr's Picnik .. but every time it blurred the image.. so I'm showing the un-altered version after processing ( cause I spent a couple hours on it and am frustrated )!

I guess I need to upload them after I do some adjustments and resize them .. it came out pretty cool ( wanted light behind the petals ) but it's only about half finished ... oh well ..

and because I didn't get what I wanted tonight, here's a bumble bee in flight . I used Lindy's advice from her workshop of " focusing on a plant and wait for them to fly in " .. it worked pretty good , I would have liked a faster shutter for the shot .. next time !

and this little fellow came for a drink while I was shooting flowers, he hung out for a few minutes while i was talking to someone and I took a few shots of him.

Hope you enjoyed the set ... thanks for taking a look,

Vin

Great shots Vin, I use the method you discribe to capture flying insects as well, my problem is i'm not real patient when it comes to waiting. You did well though, perhaps shutter speed of 800 next time?
I also like your Sparrow shot, It's hard to get them to settle down for a good shot.
Thanks for sharing these
Michael

I certainly understand the "I'm posting regardless!" state of mind. And your rose is lovely. Your bee is terrific. He actually looks like a helicopter bee as his wings look like they are spinning like roters in a circular motion rather than up and down. What a cool effect (you weren't going for)! And...look how sharply focused the flower! I love the glower on the bird. Perhaps just my take but he looks a little grumpy and that's so cute!

Three great shots Vin, but you get an A for the B. I like the fact that the wings show motion blur but the bee is sharp and in focus.

I use photoshop but I havn't tried HDR yet and I tip my cap at those who can or least have a go.
I like the rose as it is, perhaps without the shadows, the colour and shape is outstanding.
Love the little bird, so vulnerable yet so tough.
My favourite is the bee picture which is delightful. Amazing wing effects moving in the air or disturbing the surface tension of water. It must be the former as the bee hovers against the beautiful background and grasses, excellent picture Vin
