Default A little early for Halloween...

My family attended a picnic yesterday at a house across the street from Morrisville Cemetery in PA. The weather was beautiful, if mostly cloudy, so we decided to take a stroll through...

Morrisville Cemetery September 2009 070

This is the headstone of a child who lived in the house in which my wife grew up. He was struck by a car and died at the age of 8.

During our walk, conversation soon centered around whether one of Benjamin Franklin's relatives were buried in this cemetery. Locating the memorial quickly became our goal. When we came upon this stone, most of it was covered with grass and soil. Our group (including my daughter, Kenzie, who is pictured) tidied up the site as best we could.

Thanks for looking! Aaron

Awesome shots! Particularily the third one. The composition is great and the B&W suits it perfectly. I keep meaning to go shooting in one of the graveyards around here... never seem to get around to it though.

Thanks ressalg! I had wanted to go shooting in a graveyard for a while, and when the opportunity came out of no where, I was just glad to have my camera with me!

Thanks Patrick, I am still learning the ins and outs of B&W treatment. As always, this forum is chock full of good information and I found a stickied post on the subject. I am constantly amazed at what a great resource and community this place is. It was cool to connect, however distantly, to such an early part of American history.

Gorgeous black and whites. Just great contrasts and depth. And your daughter's hand in that last photo, no offence, is just creepy. A slightly tighter crop, and it'd be perfect for a Stephen King cover.

I think it's touching.

Last time I wandered in a cemetary, I was struck by how many whole families were lost in just a few days.

I keep wavering back and forth between whether that last shot is creepy or touching. I guess the most important thing is that hopefully, it is interesting.

It is both. It is touching that someone is taking the time to clear the grave/stone.

But, of course, if you're mind is slightly twisted like mine after many many many horror movies, it reminds me of a movie poster.

I can definitely see what you mean. It is easy to imagine something supernatural rising through the cracks in the stone...

Thanks windrider! The sky was mostly overcast when these were taken, so I was fortunate to have the clouds open up just a little bit for that 2nd shot.
