This guy was hanging out in our garden, and let me get my camera up real close to try capturing some macros:

Great shots. I'm surprised it sat still long enough to get s some shots.
These things give me the heebie jeebies from when we lived in Las Vegas. They were so bad lol.

Somehow I don't think of cicadas as having gossamer wings--mostly I think of them as driving me quite mad with their piercing noise--but your photo shows they do, along with that interesting black and green pattern on their body. They are unexpectedly beautiful. Nice work.

is that what these things look like .i spent hours looking for them when i was i Queensland with no luck.i,am assuming these critters are the ones that make that sort of clicking noise. regards kym

Thanks! Yeah, we were all surprised that I was able to get so close without him disappearing. Yes it is a cicada. I think there are multiple species, but they all look somewhat similar.
I decided what would happen if I cropped it and colour enhanced a bit.
