Default Boxers

I was recently asked by a friend of mine if I would do some promotional shots for a local boxing club. After I had done the shots they wanted, I asked if I could hang around and get some shots for myself, a few candids, and some portrait style, these are the results.

These were all shot with manual focus and available light.

Here are the portraits.

These were all shot against a black cloth I had stapled to the wall, again with manual focus and continuous light this time in the form or a couple of hand held softlights I had knocked together.

WELCOME to DPS
I really like the portraits a lot...kind of mysterious with the lighting. Nice work

Thanks, it's the first time I've used the new lights as I had only just finished making them an hour before, but I got the look I was after and all the boxers have asked for prints which is cool.

Very nice. The lighting is very dramatic. The last shot is my favorite. Welcome to DPS.

Very nice work, I'd love to be able to shoot something like that. You know, I bet those first shots you posted would look fantastic in black and white ;-) Like a lot of the old boxing photos you see...anyway, great job!

I'm glad you like them, it was a interesting doing the portraits using only continuous lighting, normally I would have grabbed some strobes, but I really wanted to try something different for a change. I could do with upping the power a bit from the current 225watts so I can use faster shutter speeds.

The first set of photos just had a curve applied in Photoshop to the luminance channel, while the portraits have only had a bit of contrast adjustment in Lightroom.
