You can get better by looking at your photo, identifying what you want to improve, and ask us direct questions on that specific area. Just asking "I want to improve" doesn't help us much in providing good feedback.

You are completely right, thank you the reality check. I wanted to make the subject " POP" a little more instead of the dull look. Any suggestions?

Welcome to DPS - you will learn heaps looking at what other photographers are doing and trying things - different ideas to try ourselves.

I like what you are trying to do here but I would like to have seen a little more light on the face - not much. Cheers, Bernz

Default A reminder...

From the Share Your Shots rules:

5. If you request critique on one of your threads, moderators and admins reserve the right to move the thread to a more appropriate location.

For others, if you'd like to respond to the post you might like to:
- Give feedback/encouragement
- Ask a question or get more information

Please do not post critiques of the images in Share Your Shots. If you'd like to make suggestions on how someone could improve their shot, there are lots of people in the Critique sections who would love your input.

The Critique Section is better suited for getting good suggestions specific to improving your photos.

It's one of those situations where, if the poster asks for feedback, it seems fair to give it to them. The difference in SYS is perhaps here:

Please stick to using "Share Your Shots" for images you don't want detailed feedback on, . . . because you are very happy with them and don't want all the "rotate it, crop it, adjust the colours" comments that frequently come in a critique.

Feedback: simple statements of liking, appreciating the quality of a photo in general, identifying with the subject, finding it humorous or moving or powerful, or remindful of something, and other generalities are more in the spirit of SYS. It isn't that a Critique is wrong, it's just that there's another place for that. Sharing is more about noncritical commenting, to welcome and familiarize new members with DPS and DPS with them.

You are surely correct Mr. Clickit. But may I suggest that it would have been less harsh on the OP to move his post to the proper forum and send him a PM with a statement of the rules. As it is the poor man has been flogged in public. He may just walk away from this site with a bitter taste to never say a good word about us. My humble opinion.

And as a suggestion to amend the site registering policy. Have it so that the new members cannot post until they have read and signed off on the posting rules. I know they are "stickied" at the top of every forum and subforum. But just like signage on the door no one reads them.

Hi Greg, You probably already know that the intensity of the light washes out the face of this lovely woman. But I think I get why you posted it and why you like it. There is something very interesting about the star-like quality of the sun glancing across her face. It sort of changes it from simply a portrait to an abstract design. For that reason, I like it very much. And, BTW, welcome to DPS. This is a great place to learn, make mistakes, get good feedback and grow as an artist. Come back with more!

I like what you are trying to do here and the sun's rays are cool......anytime a subject is backlit the front is a bit dark so some fill flash will give the pop you are looking for...Keep shooting and posting.....lot's of people who love to look and encourage!
