[/IMG]First attempt in night photography with only natural light. Isn't perfect but I wanted to get opinions on this. Did this without a tripod as well.

How long was your exposure? I like the idea here, and the silhouetted tree makes for a nice subject. I would like to see a framing that is either more closely cropped in to the tree and moon, or a longer exposure on a tripod that does not include the moon (would be too bright). Just my suggestions because you asked . . .

@ RussHeath: The exposure was 1 second, with 5.6 aperture and 1600 ISO. I actually did shot a closer one but it did not had that lens flare so decided this was the best. But I think you are right about the longer exposure without the moon, well will have to wait until next full moon to try that out. And thanks for the comments and suggestions, I need them and welcome them.
@ shiraq: Actually I did try a faster shutter speed but its was took dark then, unable to capture the trees and the sky, that was the problem. Thanks for the comments and suggestions. @ 4Peaz: Hahahaha lol. Never thought like that when I was taking the shot, but great imagination, I like it. @ pegger: Yes actually I did try few different things but they didn't work that good. Using the flash never occurred to me though, thought it'll ruin the composition by adding extra light on the trees, but have to try that out. Thanks for the comments a and suggestions. And you are all welcome to take a look at my flicker page as well.

Hi dimuthudw,
I'm new to DSLR photography as well, and I have the 450d like you. Regarding flash, I've been reading on these forums about 1st and 2nd curtain flash (timed with the opening and closing of the shutters that expose the sensor. Does anyone more experienced here know if those altering settings would have had any effect on the above photograph (by having the flash fire after the exposure is almost over rather than at shutter opening) or if there is some way of making the flash more or less bright, for example? Just curious. |
