a walk on the wild side

The weather has finally cooled off enough to allow me to get outside and do a lunchtime shoot......The untamed fields are indeed wild with grass reaching 5-6 feet tall and wildflowers here and there and things starting to die off and heading to winter dormancy. I'll begin the series with a few creatures

I found this bumblebee sitting in this flower and for a moment thought it to be sleeping but then I saw its little butt squirming around and so I snapped and let it be



Next was my only halfway decent capture of a dragonfly.....it wouldn't land on anything of color or beauty and quite frankly is itself a bit on the ugly side being primarily all brown.....not exotic like the ones I see continually on Mike's page in South Korea



Here is a butterfly that landed in a fairly desolate location beside a stream, hence the gravel and sandy background.....It would not move away from the stick so I did what I could....



Here was a pretty yellow butterfly and was one of the most cooperative butterflies that I have had the privelege of being around until I ran out of time and had to race back to my concrete world.

Beautiful work Patrick. I'm glad it's cooling down there, it certainly is still too hot here.

Thanks Leona, Fall will be here in 3 weeks and then winter about a week after that....so it seems around here....I am panicking.......hate winter except for snow skiiing which I can rarely afford to do raising 4 kids.....hoping it stays pleasant for a long while yet!

Lovely shots and i am like you, not really looking forward to winter. I dont ski...can still hardly manage walking on the stuff...we dont have snow in perth western australia so its something new to me...But i try to look at the magic of the different seasons.

Nothing magical about freezing your butt off and no foliage and gray skies......now a fresh snow in the mtns like the Sierras...that's magical. Problem here is it doesn't snow much at all, just gray barren and cold.....no fun!

true but i have to try and find something cause i get cabin fever and want to go nuts..as you know theres no mountains hardly even a hill around here
