Away from the norm.

I normally don't shoot these type of shots as I focus on wildlife. But here goes anyway, I have no idea how to correctly compose or shoot this type of photo. So here are my guesses...and they do look better in larger sizes.

Upstream from the falls.



The falls themselves with a couple of people to show some scale.

Finally a quick composed shot of why I was shooting water instead of critters. My youngest son with his new D90 he conned me into for his birthday. I figured if he could take water shots so could I, not sure that's true or not his looked pretty good.

what a nice dad......these are beautifully composed I think. First shot is beautiful. I hope one of my kids will take up the hobby so I'll have a shooting buddy

Isn't it a wonderful privilege to spend time with grown children sharing a common interest? I'm very happy for you on that account. Happy, too, for your very fine waterfall shots. You did a great job of getting that dreamy (is that the right word?) effect on the falls. What beautiful blues and greens! Just wish you could send sound effects and loamy smells. Nice work!

Thanks PT, this was one of those cases where I just couldn't let my son have all the fun and had to give it a try.

Thanks Patrick, my sons live in AL and this one has always had an interest in photography. His last P&S bit the dust a few months ago and we've been talking about SLRs ever since. We certainly had a great two weeks, and can't wait till they are here or I go back there.

Thanks Lindy, It was so much fun that I extended my trip and stayed two weeks instead of one. Glad you like the waterfalls as I enjoy viewing those type of photos but just never managed to take one I thought was good myself.

Thanks toyville, my sons and I don't see each other as much as we would like but when we are together we spend every minute doing something. In the two weeks I was there no one got more than three hours of sleep per night, just kept going and going.

Thanks Bernz, I've tried a few of these type of shots in the past but never really thought I had captured them well. Maybe I am learning from looking at all the photos here on DPS.
