Default Protected rare endemic bird in NZ ......

Well yesterday, the first day of spring, I ventured out to the coastline around the Plimmerton area. Whilst there I noticed this unusal bird, that I had not seen before, and started capturing shots of them - there were about 50 I think.

On returning home I then searched the website of NZ Birds and found it to be the Tarapiroe.

The Tarapiroe is a protected rare endemic bird which means it is found only in New Zealand.

The population is estimated to be around 5,000 and every year the local branch of the New Zealand Ornithological Society checks the numbers of birds which come north to winter with us.

To read more about the bird New Zealand Birds | Birds | Gallery | black-fronted tern, Sterna albostriata

Here are four of the shots I took.

Camera Nikon D300
Lense VR 70-200mm with 1.4 Teleconverter

Great action packed seascape, the birds/ water/ movement, you can almost hear the birds screeching and the waves crashing against the rocks, lovely set bernie, and I've learned a good deal about these sea birds, cheers
