I've heard it being done for a few years. Never got around (I don't know why...) to trying it until recently.
Here's the result from last night using just a run of the mill HP scanner/printer unit. ![]() Really shallow DOF makes for an interesting shot I think

Thanks. It's only my 2nd try. I think the beauty of it is, anything you can place on the glass, you can scan. But The key is to try to get a certain feeling of depth. I thought about placing like an orange slice down and such but I'm not sure how well that will work since it'll just be way too 2-D.
I'll have to think about how to use this really shallow DOF "camera" on a table top Of course I can search online too to see other examples... Hmmm...

I did a quick search around the internet and there's quite a number of people doing this, some actually selling the prints and making it their specialty. Very interesting. Of course there was someone that actually slapped on a scanner to the back of an antique camera to get interesting results too but that's a whole different story.
Either way it looks like it's a small nitch but a growing one. There's even a Flickr group or two for it. Some pretty cool stuff in there. Its like my own personal macro lens!!
