We had a smallish airshow here in Wichita. I captured a few nice images I thought I would share. Thanks in advance for taking a peek.
![]() The R-3350 Wright corp. engine. This is the number four engine from "Doc" a B-29 being restored in Wichita. Here we see smoke and a little flame belching from the exhaust as the big engine starts. This engine was indeed the weak spot on the B-29. The Superfortress was so advanced for it's time it was bound to have many "teething" problems. With a war on, and bombers needed desperately, there was little time to work out all the problems before production as would happen today. Instead, the first three hundred B-29s off the assembly line, were flown to Salina and Pratt, KS. Once there, crews worked non-stop 24/7 correcting a laundry list of defects. The B-29 "grew up" to be a very fine aircraft, but the engines were a problem that would plague the sleek bomber for many years. ![]() The Nose Art and cockpit of a PT-23. ![]() A nice experimental Helo ![]() This fifty year old workhorse is the flying gas station for the US Air Force and many other Air Arms around the world. Thanks for "flying with me!"
