Default DPS Virgin - Trees in Mdina, Malta

Trees in Mdina

This is my first post so be kind! I am so impressed with the other contributors work and look forward to improving and impressing you soon!

This photo was taken on a recent holiday to Malta. The trees can be found just outside the walls of The Silent City of Mdina, original capital of Malta. I am a very inexperienced photographer and just getting to grips with Fstops and ISO! The picture was originally taken in colour and edited in Picassa.
Camera: Olympus SP510UZ
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 6.3 mm
ISO Speed: 50

I would appreciate your feedback and have no ego to bruise!

Welcome aboard! I think this a very pretty shot. I love the look of the sky. I hope you continue to post more. Don't be intimidated. Most of us are here to learn also.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm uploading more shots to Flickr if your interested - more of my 'Malta Series"!!
A couple of friends and I have a shared interest in photography, have nice cameras but no clue how to use them properly. DPS has been a revelation so far! We try to meet up 1 sunday a month for 'Snappy Sunday' where we choose a location and subject matter. Next time we're going to the races to shoot some horsies (not literaly of course!).
Thanks again for your encouragement!

Hello bdoolan and a warm welcome to our friendly forums here at DPS. This is lovely photograph and a great subject. I love the gradient of the sky to the ground and the excellent contrast between the sky and the trees. A beautiful shot and you should be proud of it.
Most of us are inexperienced and I for one have learnt many things from the friendly and helpful members. You picked the right place to come to improve your skills. I can't wait to see more of your work. Enjoy your time here and most of all. Have fun.

Dave.

Hey Jakethepig! Great name!!
Thanks for your comments - much appreciated. The sky is, unfortunately, postproduction. The real sky wasn't up to much: Mother Nature on a day off I think! My experience so far at DPS has been very positive and I am encouraged by the wonderful photos other members have shared. Thanks again!

Riley - thank you for the compliment - I made it up myself!! Thought it might stand out a bit - everybodys curious about Virgins!!

I did the post work with Picassa and its just a simple graduated filter - as I've said earlier the original sky was a bit bland and I stumbled across that effect by chance. "Trial and Error" is my mantra these days! I do find that B&W is very forgiving though.

Welcome to DPS!

I think you'll find this is a great place to learn. I like the symmetry of your shot here. each of the trees is leaning at the same angle and the repeating benches add interest, too.
