Last night was fairly easy as we did a feature on Clint Cannon, the number one ranked bareback rider in the world. What a neat cowboy he is, very easy to work with.

Here's shots of him during the ride and when he found out that he posted a score of 87, which is the highest score of the week so far.
A few of the Rodeo committee member came over to see the images I shot and commented that they were much better than the Professional Rodeo photographer. I asked them how he had gotten the contract and they mention it was through the good o'l boy network. They took my business cards and throughout the evening I was visited by cowboys and committee members wanting to see my rodeo shots. Must have passed out about 100 cards and hopefully will lead to web sales as well as next years contract. The rodeo photographer is able to stand in the arena and shoot with a 70-200 next to where they bulls and riders come out of the chutes. He was hit by a running horse and clipped by a bull........what an idiot. But when you are equipment challenged I guess you have to do what's needed to get a shot. I shot outside the ring with my 300mm or 400mm lenses and was able to get really good action shots, whereas when they came out of the chute unless the riders turned right or left, the other photographers got the ass end of the riders. Where as got ass end and a few shots, I was able to get them coming at me head on or 4/3 side. Guess the committee members liked my pictures of his and hopefully I'l be the next year's rodeo photographer. After looking at my work, a few of the rider commented oh how much better mine was compared to most of the rodeo photographers they've seen, which made me feel better. Of course I didn't tell them that it's been seven years since I last shot a rodeo. Who knows..........this could lead to something good as well.

Probably around Washington State. The PBR requires a photographer to sign a contract to supply them the images and for all rights. SCREW THEM! They are a big business and make enough money.
