Default Island Images

Here are a few shots from my trip to Vancouver Island, and Gabriola Island. The weather was threatening a bit on the ferry ride over, but cleared for the remainder of my 3 day stay with my mom. I wanted to give people a taste of what you can see over there. It is a beautiful place to visit, and take photos! I hope you enjoy these.

Hello Paul, I'm surprised that these have drifted through till now without a comment, however, such is DPS mate.
I like this selection, crisp detail and summer colours. I particularly like the final picture, it's excellent mate. Great variety of tone and texture. Maybe even a candidate for a B/W make-over

Nice set of shots. I really like the emotion of the third shot.

You are right it is beautiful there. I really like the last shot as it captures the natural beauty without any intervention of man.

What a beautiful place. I like all your pictures, but the last is my favorite. I like the texture of the logs and the little rolls of the sand combined diagonally accross your image with the expanse of the sky.

Thanks Steve. You took the words out of my mouth. I was "chatting" with another DPS member who talked about looking at things in terms of greyscale. I wasn't sure what he was talking about, so I took his statement as good light to dark values. Does that sound right? Cheers mate, and thanks for the comments on Flickr as well.

Thank you so much Audrey. All one can do is post, post, post!

It is funny how many people lean toward the all natural shots. I tend o like throwing in the odd man-made item as it creates a controversy sometimes.

The last was one of my favorites as well. Mike hit the nail on the head with his comment.

I don't always have the right conditions to capture good reflections as the wind is always up a little around here. Got lucky!

It is funny that you mention the emotion in this one. I was thinking the guy in the small craft to the right was nuts for playing in the wake of that huge ferry!

Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Mike. As i mentioned above, I like this one the best as well. I was trying to play with all the lines formed by the logs in the shot, and have them lead you out to the tip of the point in this shot. What looks like the sand here is actually sandstone! That is why I love this location in particular as the water and waves have done wonderful things to the sandstone. Cheers.
