Default Vatican City and St. Peter's Basilica

From a recent trip to Italy... Here are a few shots from a visit to the Vatican. What an amazing place! Too bad we could not take pictures in the Sistine Chapel.

Inside St Peter's Basilica. If you look near the bottom right of the picture you can see a dark alter - Just this structure alone is 98 feet tall! Hopefully that helps with giving you a sense of scale.. pictures really do not do that place justice. It's really a very grand and beautiful church, with just the most amazing architecture and artwork.

Inside St. Peter's Basilica

Here is a statue of St. Peter, with the front of St. Peter's Basilica in the background:

Peter in front of St. Peter's Basilica

Standing in front of the Basilica, from my point of view:

St. Peter's Basilica

And lastly, a picture taken of St. Peter's Square from in front of the Basilica:

There are more pictures from Italy and France are on my flickr. Thanks for looking!

Great set! They are all beautiful, but that 1st one is amazing. I looked at it on your flikr in large size, and it is just beautiful! Another place I want to visit someday.

Thanks for taking the time to view a larger image! Sometimes I wish we could post them larger on here, although I do understand the longer loading time and how the pages would be formatted weird.. etc. Haha anyway thanks for the comment, it's really a fabulous must-see place!

Yeah the sun coming through was really lucky! I bought a book about the place once I left, and I've been reading all about it. Must be interesting to study!

Thanks very much, yes there is much detail in the shot, but it still does not do the building justice!

Well thank you very much for the comment! Lucky that you got some pictures inside the chapel. They were really cracking down on anyone that took any so I didn't take my chances..
