Thanks guys!

I wanted to do something besides the typical fully lit violin with the bow and the rose and the sheet music I was fooling around with the off camera flash and I ended up placing it about 3' behind the end of the violin pointed towards the wall and then I used the wall as a soft box to bounce softer light onto the violins. Because the electic one is all black and polished, it lit the curves pretty nicely

Hi Tim A
i was wondering what i was going to see , It was buidings or something along those lineslol!!
Musical instruments are great to shoot as they have great shapes and curves and even textures in the wood grains,Yes i agree its very easy to just do a classic or cliche kind of shot of the violin headstock or sound hole but you have pulled off what you intended to do.
Electric violins ae very intesting in themselves with there skeletal like forms .
As a musician myself i would have been very pleased if i had created a shot like yours
it is inspiring
thanks for sharing
mike

Thanks everyone!

And yes, dizwold, instruments are great subjects. I don't know why I haven't used them as much as I could!! They are infinitely patient and don't mind sitting around while you fret around moving the flash and refocusing and reframing the shot and swapping out lenses and cursing...!!
