After refueling with coal & water, this loco was put on the huge turntable and rotated before heading for home. It was on an excursion from Wellington to Te Kuiti & return.

hi kl
steam trains are so magnificent!! ooooohh that the red bumpers !!. Your first shot for me represents here and now the second sepia gives it that old vintage look, the third and fourth well i just love b/w as it can bring out some great detail to these amazing machines. MMM i would be tinkering away in photoshop with these.
bet you had fun
food for thought for me anyway thanks for putting them on, they are all great shots.

Thanks Beach. Yes they are fast becoming things of the past here, but a real treat when we come across one just by chance.

Many thanks Mike. I agree with you, each variation puts the pic into a differnet time frame. Unfortunately I don't have photo shop, but have it's substitute in photo studio, so will have a play...maybe, remove the rubbish bins for starters LOL Anyway, thanks for your kind comments. Much appreciated.

Thank you for that DR. I still can't decide which I prefer, but hey, it was great to get up so close to the big monster.

Great experimenting Pauline, I think you know already that number two is my favourite. Awesome work and the frame makes it even better.

Dave.

Hi Keenlearner, Feels like an eye test, which is better #1 or #2, Is it # 2 or #3.
Well I'll settle on #1, I like the color version. I don't know if you added it in #1 or took it away in 2 na 3, but I like it!
Your last shot is very nice as well.
Thanks for Sharing these
Michael

They are great shots Pauline. I think I like the first one the best but the B&W is my 2nd choice.

Digging around I found this old foto of my great-grandfather who was the engine driver of trains. That is him standing at the front. This foto was taken in the early 1900's.
