Never! these are great photos. What a stunning looking dragonfly. How do you get close enough to take a picture of a dragonfly?

first two particularly nice....the 1st looks like nature's own showerhead.....and the 2nd is a terrific macro shot.....what lens did you use and how much of a crop?

Thanks michele, I saw him land in the field and used my 300mm at about 6 feet.

Thanks patrick. These were all shot with my 300 f/4L. Where a macro lens has a magnification ratio of 1:1, the 300 is 1:4.2 which = .24. Not too bad for macro work, for a normal lens.

The second one was cropped down to 1/4 of the original image.

Thanks fred. The first(after the petals fall off) and third(unopened) one are the same type of flower. They are lotus flowers (which someone on here so kindly informed me of what they were). They grow in a pond like a water lily. Here is what the flower looks like.........
