Default Night Shots - White Balance

Hi all,

Popped out this evening to try my first ever night shots with a friend of mine.

When importing them onto his PC so he had a copy we got into a discussion as to preference over White Balance Settings.

His preference is with the shot settings and mine is picking a White Balance spot that gave a more natural look to the colours.

Anyway just wondered what the opinion of others was.

Shot Settings:

Well if you are not trying to depict exact reality then it is really whatever you like the looks of better. Me, I like the glow of the first shot.

I like the second one, but that's just me.

I prefer the second shot here but like kirbinster said, it depends on what you're trying to achieve. I often use the 'shade' setting. especially with landscapes or cityscapes.

I prefer the 2nd one too, but I have noticed that most urban night shots look like the first one because streetlights have all gone to a reddish tint. I sometimes think during a power outage might be the best time to shoot in the city.
