Fun with HDR, what are your views?

Hi everyone. When i take photos, where possible i like to use bracketing, and then sometimes make the 3 pictures into an HDR image using photomatrix, and then further processing in paintshop pro x.

I have found that night shots can come out particualy bad, over bright in the bright areas and far to dark in the dark areas. Clouds can be a problem in landscapes as they move, causing un un natural look.

Some photos can look a little un real, while other can just come out spectular with plenty of detail to keep the eye interested.

Please share your thoughts, i am very interested to hear them

Yeah HDR looks surreal. Personally I am not so much interested in making HDR. I feel it is like getting two months salary for doing one week of job. It feels like taking credit for something you didnt do. For me playing with brightness/contrast is just right at the acceptable mark. Nothing more.

Looks like you need a sensor cleaning more than anything else. The dust globs are more distracting than the double cloud images.

Having a camera with a bracket mode you can shoot with the continuous shutter will help on the clouds, allowing photomatix to "move" similar objects will also help. HDR is a lot of fun but it can be frustrating from time to time too. I shoot almost all of mine off hand so I probably experience more frustration than most..

I thought they looked pretty awful from the small images until I clicked to see them full size and was quite impressed.
I especially like the more realistic look they have, as I really hate the over the top fake stuff

at last im finding myself agreeing with you henbres, i agree in minimal processing and knowing when to stop for over processing.
HDR is strange reminds me of the kitch pictures people stick on thier walls. I am not being disrespectful to the member who put these on as it could be an interesting medium to work in.

Really cool. I've yet to make any good HDR shots.
But you did great! Love the 3rd and 4th ones.
