Hey all! I'm new (sort of).. I've been a long time lurker, occasionally posting here and there, and a few times in Gear for Sale looking for my first SLR. Well, I have my newest due tomorrow via UPS, a Canon XSi along with a 50mm f1.8 lens and a telephoto lens. (It's my 1st anniversary slash birthday present. But only if I ebay the G10. I've had fun keeping my G10 on M mode and learning all I can, but I'm super eager to delve deeper with my newest acquisition.
I figured I'd finally enter some of the assignments and update my info. I have always had a passion for photography that started in my first high school class with my old Nikon (I still have it). I loved that camera but my dad wouldn't let me bring it anywhere since it "cost more than me".. Fast forward to digital and I was in heaven! I am an artist also and enjoy turning my compositions into works of art. I'll take photos and instead of just printing them to put them on the wall, I like to go one further and turn it into hand drawn art. Especially flowers, wine scenes, and lately, I've been working on a series of old rusty cars/trucks surrounded by flowers/weeds/grass, etc. (example Pelz Pets - Art ii ) So that is a motivation for a lot of my photography. I've owned about 6 Canon Powershots, buying them every 1.5 years.... and loved them, but mostly did the "scene" settings and learned a lot about composition. I was ready to upgrade and, worried I'd make the wrong choice for the price jump to an SLR, I settled for the G10... I quickly found out I was eager to move up and learn about lenses, filters, etc. But I wasn't going to buy them for the G10. So after doing tons of research on all the different cameras, I settled on the XSi... mostly because I've been Canon loyal, but I didn't want or need the extra features of the T1i, and I read that the Digic 4 isn't much on this camera due to cramming more pixels on a small sensor, and I've been reviewing pictures I enjoy and see the XSi popping up a lot, so I think (hope) I've made the right choice! I still love my little Digital Elph and will always carry it as a backup, but I can't wait to try out my new XSi!! My favorite things to shoot other than me with my friends is: Buildings: ![]() The weather/sky: ![]() Animals: (Lots of pics from my work, I'm a dog groomer. This was camera phone pic: ' ![]() My favorite subject, my cat Lucy: ![]() We have a trip to the zoo planned for our anniversary, since that was where we were married, (they have beautiful gardens and facilities there) and will get to try a lot with the camera.. Hopefully I'm home to sign for it in time tomorrow! Fingers crossed! Great to meet you, and love reviewing all of your great photography!! Jessie

welcome to dps, even though you've been around a while
...good choice on making the upgrade, you'll love it and soon you'll probably lust for the 50D or a 5D the same way you wanted a DSLR once you had the G10... ahhhh its a cruel world haha. i used my sister's XSi for a couple months, and i've tried out a 50D and a 5D that some friend's have... i wish i had the money to make the jump to the 50D (or any DSLR for that matter) but alas i'm poor and stuck with my little powershot... oh well, my time will come soon enough. looking forward to seeing your photos with the new cam!!
