Default The North American Nebula

Also known as NGC 7000. Located in the constellation, Cygnus the Swan. Approximately 1600 light years away. As you can tell, it got it's "fun" name from the resemblance to the N. American continent.

North American Nebula - NGC 7000

This is a single 5 minute exposure at ISO 400 then processed in CS2.

This is an amazing capture ressalg. You must have a great setup for this kind of shot, is this connected to a telescope? However you got it. It is excellent. Great work.

Dave.

Thanks, Jake. Yes, it's taken through a telescope... there's a picture of my setup on my Flicker page (Gear on Flickr - Photo Sharing!).

This is a stunning shot, ressalg. I've always had some sort of intrigue as to how to get these shots, and after seeing the gear you used on Flickr, I think it is really impressive. Once again, amazing job, thanks for sharing with us. I'll make sure to stop by your other shots on Flickr.

Well I have my T-mount and am just waiting on my Father In Law to bring the telescope down from his cabin in the mountains and I can get some of these shots hopefully!

Once again, thanks, Heaterguy. There's so many stars in the frame, I don't think it'd be too hard for everyone to find a star for their city, too.

Thanks for looking, Ana. It really puts a smile on my face to see so many enjoy the time and effort that goes into my astronomy images.

Still waitin' on that dang 'scope, eh WVCoalMiner? When I was waiting for the delivery of the 'scope I used for this, a friend reminded me of the Tom Petty song, "The Waiting Is The Hardest Part". Thanks for looking.

I think it's kind of like when you see a picture someone's taken from the top of a mountain. The view from the top is a perspective that not everyone gets to see but it's always there. I know you'll never find my sorry butt on the top of any mountain (unless it's by helicopter) but thanks to those who are willing, the rest of us still get to see it.

Thanks for looking.

?? I'm just in disbelief.... are those really all stars? It's like something from a dream you know? I've never been able to see lots of stars because its generally not dark enough where i live. I don't own a telescope though i've always wanted one since i was young and my Dad used to take me out with his and we'd look at Saturn and such... I've seen pictures like this in science text books and maybe on the internet but i could not imagine that a regular guy/girl could take a photo of what is so far away and so breathtaking. It's amazing and inspiring and i cannot wait to see more Rob. Kimi
