Default Quiet Time with Daddy

This turned out to be a lucky shot. I was trying to get some practice with my new speedlight taking some pictures of our daughter and she decided she wanted to lay down on the floor by me. I had my 50mm lens on so there was no way i could take the shot normally so i had to hold the camera up over my head and hope it was aimed and focused properly......coincidentally i got better focus on her eyes this time than i can sometimes get by using the viewfinder! go figure!

(Color Version.....Cant decide which i like better: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3429/...5030bb61_b.jpg )

Very creative shot and I'm sure one you'll cherish. Just goes to show what can happen if you take the chance!

I really like this. I think I prefer this version over the color. I feel more drawn to her face here; your legs seemed to distract me in the color picture, but that's just me.

exactly! trying and break some of the rules once and a while and play around and sometimes you get lucky like this

i did some test prints of both versions too and i think i agree that i lean towards the b&w version too. i think my legs distract too much also! (you'd think this late into summer i'd have more a tan ! haha)
only thing i'm having a problem with now is printing the b&w it turns out darker than on screen (i know that the look is going to vary depending on what type of calibration your screen has..).
I wonder if it has anything to do w/ exporting the jpeg to proRGB instead of sRGB or aRGB...i'll have to do some tests)

thanks for the comments!

thanks! ya i found it pretty ironic that one of my better eye focused shots came from holding the camera over my head haha
the trick i used was......like i mentioned i was practicing with my new 430ex ii speedlight and was practicing bouncing off the ceiling and off the white cabinet and noticed that the speedlight emitted a red grid when it did its initial focusing so i used that along w/ some test shots to get a general idea where the "middle" of the subject would be based on where the red gridlines fell.. so when i held over my head i lined up the grid to about where her head was and took a few series of shots and got lucky learn somethin new every day, right!

now if i could only just find a create way to get the legs out of the shot haha dont think they ADD to the photo
