So after much thought and research I decided to purchase the 50mm 1.4 over the 1.8. Actually the deciding factor was using both of them in the store. Anyway as people who have started to use this lens can attest to, it's got a steep learning curve for us newbies used to the standard kit lens. It's been tricky with the incredibly shallow depth of field, especially considering what you see in the viewfinder isn't necessarily what you'll get.
I took some test shots at with various settings and thought you might be interested. These have not been processed at all, they are directly out of the camera. I'm amazed at how fast the shutter starts to slow down at even the smallest aperture increase. Any tips on shooting with this lens are more than appreciated. BTW, you don't have to shoot everything @ f/1.4 and retain the signature of the lens. Use f/1.4 only in the right situations for shallow DOF or low light. Very soon you will have no trouble focusing f/1.2 lenses.
