Default GIve us a hug ;-)

So this girlie ( I'm assuming its a she) moved in a day or so ago. I love these spiders, as they eat the dreaded grasshoppers. Of course they eat good bugs too ;-( it was facinating watching her all morning (and not getting my laundry done ;-) ) she was catching every thing imaginable. A bee was unfortunate enough to fly into her web, I know its nature, but I thought I'd help mr. bee out, and maybe let him grab onto a twig or something...break him out ;-) no sooner had I made a move for him, she blitzed over there, snagged him and had him mummied up in an instant, absolutely amazing the speed.

this gives you a bit of idea, you can see the silk covering poor mr. Bee ;-(

another victim, she was also very cluttzy, she must have dropped 3 dinner guests while I was watching.

a wasp.

Wow, these are amazing captures Stella. You can see the silk coming out. The detail is just stunning. You certainly captured nature at its very best. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Dave.

Thanks! I wish they could have been a little clearer, but considering I don't really have a macro lens, and the fact that I was up on a ladder LOL, she's up really high, (and I'm vertically challanged ;-) so it was kind of hard to get up close, then the lighting was problematic as well...I don't know how many times and how long I was up on that ladder, the neighbors prob, think I'm whacked LOL

I know my neighbors think I'm crazy, so join the club! I'd be careful about getting too close and interfering with her lunch, or you just might find yourself being mummified, too. Very interesting and detailed shots. Thanks for sharing.

LOL I know, I'm always out walking around looking for bug and whatnot to shoot ;-) These are really good spiders ;-) we used to feed them grasshoppers. I wasn't afaid of her gettin' me, but I was concerned that if she made a sudden move at me while I was shooting, I'd spook and fall off the damn ladder! making sure to break my camera's fall with my body ;-) I tell you what, you can not believe the speed of her cocooning or whatever you call it...I've never seen anything like it, we're talking wicked fast. It'll be interesting to watch her as the days go by.
