I am in a similar situation to you myself. I just moved up to a Canon XTi from an A590 (awesome little gem) and am getting the hang of the options and creativity that the DSLR offers over the P&S. Your sunsets are awesome and the little critter is sharp too. I can't wait to see what you can do with the new Canon.

Thanks for the comments. I've been looking through my old photos and am starting to realize that I've got a lot to learn. A whole lot. I think I've come to the right place, though.
I was out in Yuma, AZ for the first 2 pics. I remember chasing that lizard around the desert with the camera pointing at his rear until I finally cornered him. Basically, the final product was all luck. I guess every picture has a thousand words. Here's another that I took while I was in Iraq the first time.
