This morning was the perfect type for the DF's and we had tons of them all over the back yard. Seeing as how I am still on my quest to get a dragon shot that I am happy with I decided to gather up all my gear and head on out into the sunshine. (yes, I know tough start to my day) I took tons of pics, had some of the most gorgeous guys out there. One was stunning in a deep vibrant red. A couple of them had the nicest wings with designs in them. And of course they all had that cute smile on their faces.
I came to many conclusions this morning regarding my quest... such as cats and dogs are NOT helpful in any way shape or form in keeping the little dragons sitting in one spot for longer then a nano second these little dragons are actually quite crafty and know exactly when you are about to take a pic and then they fly off at the precise moment you click the shutter the number of them sitting in one spot for long enough to compose and focus corresponds directly to where the camera is ... camera not in my hands means tons of the are around, camera in my hand ready to go ... not so many Here are some of my finds from my dragon quest today a bees butt covered in pollen ![]() a cute daddy long legs ![]() I have no idea what the heck this is .... but we have these shells all over the place ![]() this view finally called my name one to many times ... I gave up and hung out enjoying the sun for a long time this afternoon ![]() My final conclusions for this day's photo shoot are not making me real happy. In order to get a macro shot of the bugs that I am ok with I have to use extension tubes and 2 timers and get super close to them. Much closer then the little dragon flies will let me. My zoom with the macro is a cheap lens that just isn't going to do what I want it to do. So, my dragon quest goes on the back burner til I can afford the new Nikon lens. Sigh ........

Wow Sue, I just love your macro photgraphs. The daddy long legs is amazing, but so are all of them. Great work as always Sue.

Your quest for dragonfly pics may not have been a success, but these are a great set of macro consolation pics. Great DOF. And what a great way to relax after a photo hunt.

Hi Susan! These are wonderful Captures and especially the Daddy Long legs, (I'm kind of partial to spiders ya know)
I use my Sigma 180mm macro, sometimes with a 1.4 extender when I'm going after DF's, that way I don't have to get so close. Next time lock the dogs and cats up. They really do scare of everything!!! I was in Thailand trying to get bird captures, and the two dogs with me kept chasing everything away. I'm not sure, but I think the shell is a Dragonfly Nymph shell. kind of looks like this one. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3652/...cdb5a968_o.jpg Probably why you have so many DF's around. Thanks for Sharing these Michael
