Don't know if any of you watch the TV show called House or not. Its about a Dr. that can solve most medical mysteries. At the end of last season he had a mental break down and was being taken to Greystone, which is the closed and abandoned mental facility in Morris County NJ. The police regularly chase you away if you go there to take pictures claiming it is state property and illegal to take pictures. Well, that just makes it more fun to go and get shots there. The place is in really bad shape now, but used to be quite majestic. Here are a few shots I took this weekend, and if you watch House when it starts its new season soon you will recognize the buildings.

That's neat! I didn't realize that the place the used in the show was closed down. Did they just use the name, or film at the building... that last shot sure looks like the place from the season finale though.
Thanks for sharing.

I think they took shots outside but probably the inside stuff was done in the studios. Here are a few more:

Here are three shots of the same building, the first two were taken in October of 2007, the third this weekend:
![]() ![]() ![]() Its a real disgrace how they are wasting our tax dollars by tearing down historic buildings or just letting them rot. And here is what used to count as therapy I guess:

my guess is that it would cost more to modernise and maintain. Think plumbing, electrics, modern cells/ rooms, medical facilities.
Not everything lasts for ever, so this time they might be saving your tax dollars. At least you get to take the pictures |

You are probably right - to make it a mental hospital. But they built a brand new one about 1/4mile away. These buildings could have been used for office space, storage, or other uses rather than just allowed to rot.

I just love old places like this. Too bad I'm so far away, this looks like it would be fun in person. Thanks again for sharing.
I'll be watching for outside shots when House comes back on
