Default Weekend trip to Butcher Holler, Home of Loretta Lynn

My wife has been begging and begging me to take her over to Van Lear Kentucky to see the childhood home of Country music superstar Loretta Lynn and the subject of the Movie Coal Miners Daughter.
So Saturday we packed up the XSi and XS and lenses in the car and took the 2 hour trip to see it. I have many more shots to post so just watch here.
When we got there we were surprised to find out they were having the Van Lear celebration days weekend so we got to not only see the house but take in a bunch of country and bluegrass bands as well as take tours of the coal museum and meet many nice people.
We met Emily Portman's parents she is the girl who is playing Loretta Lynn in the Conway Twitty Musical that is currently touring and does an AMAZING Loretta Lynn tribute so if you get a chance check her out Emily Portman USA
She also has a new country CD that sounds great!

Thanks guys, yes we are going back next month to take an actual tour of the house. Loretta's brother Herman gives tours for $5 but he had just gotten out of the hospital Friday from having stents put into his heart so he cannot do any tours for a few weeks. But we did find the old coal mine where her dad worked (now closed and sealed but they have an opening that you can look into) and some other stuff so we are going back and spend a whole day there instead of just 4 or 5 hours like we did yesterday.

That is the exact house shown in the movie Coal Miners Daughter and the actual house Loretta Lynn grew up in. And it is at the end of Butcher Holler (marked by white paint on a rock at the mouth of the holler). Gravel road miles from nowhere LOL

Nice shots, I haven't been in that area for over forty years but looks like the only changes are the signs.

Nice day trip there....I also had fun with my very first exploration around the town of Lynch, a US Steel coal town which began in the early twenties...very interesting history.....there is a link on my 1st Lynch post here on DPS. I thought of you while there......You're the only miner that I have ever "known".
