Before the malls and the chain supermarkets, there was the open city market place.
Mahane Yehuda is often referred to as the 'Shuk', is "the" outdoor marketplace in Jerusalem. It is one of my all time favorites. I used to shop here, as a young Ph.D. student, every single friday for about 5 years. A little history from the wiki: Mahaneh Yehuda dates back to the end of the 19th century, when it was established on an empty lot owned by the Sephardi Valero family. Arab merchants sold goods to residents outside the Old City, saving them the long walk to the Old City food markets. Eventually, Jewish merchants opened stalls there. The market is a mixing pot of cultures, colors, smells, people, goods, food, and almost anything else that comes to mind. A real-living example of diversity co-existance and tolerance. We drove up to Jerusalem the other day and I came back with a few pictures, veggies, cheeses, wines and a smile. I made virtual-polaroid snapshots and put together this collage (some of the individual originals can be found at: Jerusalem - a set on Flickr) ![]() For the polaroid frames I used plug in called:Polaroid GENERATOR V2 provided by ~rawimage

I had so many pictures that I liked that I decided to put them together. I was afraid of the overload, but may be it is OK.

This was a "some assembly required" kind of project. I'm glad you enjoyed them.

Great work !! The whole collage is just so interesting and visually appealing. I love looking into others cultures as sometimes I just feel so sheltered where I am.

Thanks, I appreciate your comments and I'm glad you liked my collage (I'm not a fan of them myself, but I had the feeling it would work OK in this case).
