Default Midnight Snack

I received my Canon Speedlite 430EX II in the mail today, and I've been playing with it ever since it arrived.

I've been wanting to experiment with directional lighting, and I've had this idea in my head for some time. I finally got to try and manifest that idea into something tangible...kind of. So, here it is:

Enjoy!

ooohh, I really like this shot. It's really dramatic lighting. Very nice.

Fantastic shot. I bet you are glad to get your new camera when you get to capture a great shot like this. Thanks for sharing.

I really like it! How did you get the background so black? Is it a special cloth?

Very dramatic I really like it. What did the color version look like?

Definitely an a-peeling photography. Har har! No, but seriously, this is very well done, and I'd be envious if I could make something half as good. An apple never looked as serious, compelling, or daunting as it does in that shot.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I'm glad you enjoy(ed) the photo. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

The background is straight from camera. I didn't touch it in post-processing. I didn't use anything special at all. In fact, it was a very ghetto setup. Haha.

I had a black shirt that I draped to use as a tablecloth and for the background. I turned off all the lights, and the only light that I used was the flash. I was kind of surprised at how black it turned out as well. I'm definitely going to keep this technique in mind for future ideas.

Thanks! See attached for the color version. I don't like it as much as the monochrome version.

Excellent lighting. I saw your color version. I like the B&W better also.
