Default Tender Portrait

My favourite shots always seem to be the ones that I nearly deleted whilst out shooting. This is a shot I took at Chester Zoo earlier this week of my wife and son. I was following some advice I'd seen on here about taping your focal length at 50mm to make you consider your shots more carefully. I just fired this one off and upon reviewing the resulting photo I nearly deleted it. It was only upon a second viewing that I realised it may make a good black and white conversion, I softened it slightly but decided not to crop it at all. This was the result. I'm pretty pleased with it myself.

Adam and Jenny - Fixed

So I've learnt to never delete any shot until I've had a good look at it back on the computer and also that I really want to get a prime 50mm lens as I did see a marked improve in my images from taping my lens at 50mm.

This shot was originally posted in the technique section as I needed some advice on correcting a dark patch but I figured it out before any passed on any advice :-)

I love accidentals - and this one is up there with the best. Such emotion and is so real that it makes the mummy in me want to cry!! So adorable!

Deleting this one would have been a gross error. It is spectacular and you should be very proud of it.

What a brilliant capture of a precious moment. I'm glad you thought twice before deleting it.

Nicely done! I especially like how the woman's eyes have been cut out of the frame to sort of give her an anonymous, trans-human motherly appeal. The only, and very small and insubstantial critique, would be that the pattern on the baby's bib/garment is slightly distracting. Then again, it sort of reinforces the child's youth, so I'm not sure what to do with that. But overall, nicely done!

Thanks for the kind comments. I am just distracted by his sleeve being overblown. I may try to take the glare off that a little. I would never of got this shot if I hadn't taped my lens at 50mm, I would of been lazy and zoomed out a little and ended up with an average snapshot.
