by David Wilcox I rolled off the line in Detroit back in 1958, Spent three days in the showroom, that's all I had to wait. I've been good to all who owned me, so have no fear; C'mon, boy, put your money down and get me out of here! I'm a tailfin road locomotive from the days of cheap gasoline, And I'm for sale by the side of the road going nowhere, A rusty old American dream. Just for fun. Everything "new"... ![]() ...is "old" again ![]() If you recognize this star belonging to the Texaco Gasoline Company it probably means you grew up in America and you are, unfortunately, old. Their brand was inspired by the Lone Star of Texas. This was a very popular TV jingle: "You can trust you car to the man who wears the star (everybody)--the BIG, BRIGHT Texaco Star!" The company merged with Chevron in 2001. These photos are taken in Bisbee, Arizona. It is known by many as one of the "quirkiest towns in American", Bisbee is a former mining town. In fact, at the turn of the century, it was the largest town west of the Mississippi River. Now it is an artist colony/tourist destination. If you want to get a sense of this part of the country, I highly recommend the book Going Back to Bisbee by Richard Shelton.

Ahhh back to the days of cruising all night on a "dollar's worth" in a large tail-finned beast with STEEL bumpers, but alas (at least in the South) no air conditioning! I remember that Texaco (Texas Oil Company) jingle well, and the days when there was no such thing as self serve, so I'm showing my age.
I love the weathered old truck and all of your fantastic perspectives on it. It's so enjoyable. Bisbee sounds like a really cool place to go and I need to put it on my "Places in Arizona to Visit" list...funny how that list is getting longer and longer. I think the culprit is a certain friend in Arizona that keeps posting such magical images of the place. Looking forward to seeing more from your "birthday wish place" trip!

Lindy: Those are great. And I'm sad/proud/disgusted/happy (you get the idea) to say I remember the "Big Bright Texaco Star." You know what that means. I'm old. Really old.
What were we talking about? Oh, yeah. Now I remember. What was that again? ![]() Did you do some post processing to get the Lomo effect? They all have that Lomo look and feel. They are just great.

What a lovely set Linda and so very well presented. I just love your pictures of the old car and that lovely old town of Bisbee. I remember the Texaco star in Englad too but unfortunately it does not make me young lol.. I like the set at the bottom too for comparison and it just shows how you can age and beutify a photograph using some simple sepia tones. Wonderful work Linda and thank you so much for making me feel old in a nice and sweet way. ha ha.
Dave.
