I took this photo this past February on the Yokosuka line heading towards Chiba from Tokyo. I had to take it really quick with my trusty Lumix DMC-LX3 so no one would get suspicious.
I'm not a big fan of selective coloring but in this case, I think it helped eliminate the distracting background of white plastic and blue seats. I was on that train for a good 40 minutes...I don't think she ever woke up...hope she didn't miss her stop...

What a beautiful capture. The use of selective colouring really works well with this shot.

Thanks everyone!
I personally like this photo because you don't get to see scenes like this in the US. Here it's all about cars in terms of getting around. But over there, even if you are in the most formal of kimonos (and the real ones are NOT cheap...we're talking thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars!) sometimes it's more convenient to take the train. ...only later did I see that the guy sitting on the right side of the photo is playing on his Nintendo DS... Ha! If I wasn't being so sneaky to try to take the shot quickly, I could have done something with the whole "traditional / modern" thing. Oh well...

Thanks. I was afraid that the dark kimono might not work well once I converted the background to B&W but there was enough color, texture, and pattern there to make it work. Most definitely a surprise shot
Wish I could run into her again so I can show her...though hopefully she won't get angry!!
